Pool Paintings 2017
My summer vacation in 2016 was spent traveling through the western US where pools became a positive and recurring theme. I imagine that the immersion in water can evoke the most primitive of memories: life in the womb, our earliest encounters with the sea, summer afternoons from childhood. In the many pools I encountered on this trip, the feeling of being in or next to water in a contained shape was consistently trans formative and comforting. These paintings represent pool areas as patterns, both in the water and throughout the surrounding environment.
