Pool Paintings 2017
My summer vacation in 2016 was spent traveling through the western US where pools became a positive and recurring theme. I imagine that the immersion in water can evoke the most primitive of memories: life in the womb, our earliest encounters with the sea, summer afternoons from childhood. In the many pools I encountered on this trip, the feeling of being in or next to water in a contained shape was consistently transformative and comforting.
These paintings represent pool areas as patterns, both in the water and through the surrounding environment which is intentionally void of other people. It is my way of inviting you to experience a similar sense of the aquatic solitude which I was privy to over and over again.
The entire collection will feature ten 18" x 24" paintings. Please submit your information on the Contact page to be placed on my mailing list for announcements about future exhibitions of this and other new work.
