How do you start the next new artwork? How do you open the right door to the party you have just invited yourself to attend? Ironically for me, it's a combination of Exhilaration and Calm. What appears as a contrast turns out to be the right balance for new ideas.
I asked a few artist friends to weigh in on this question, using just two words:
Tim Tate: “Awe Inspiring .....I always want a sense of wonder and overwhelming awe to define a piece, especially if it's my own.”
Jacqui Crocetta: Excited and Curious are the first two words that came to mind.
Greg Ferrand: Most of the time it's first Uncertainty (what do I want to say/express and can I?) and then Surrender (to the idea that whatever must be painted will be painted). I have no other choice.
Ed Bisese: You’re Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid trapped in a bank with the entire Bolivian Army outside. It takes two words to get you on your feet and out the door.
